Swiss Lathes, explained.
A Swiss Lathe, also called a Swiss-type turning center or sliding-head lathe, is designed for machining long, slender, high-precision parts with exceptional accuracy. Unlike conventional lathes, the workpiece is supported by a guide bushing while the bar stock slides through the spindle, minimizing deflection and allowing aggressive machining on very small diameters. Modern Swiss machines frequently include multiple live tool stations, sub-spindles, B-axis milling heads, and automatic bar feeders for complete part processing.
